Phew! September was an epic month around here. Le Soir has been well received and I’m so happy to see other knitters enjoying it; but it’s taken up quite a chunk of my time, which is why I’ve got a number of updates piled up that I’m excited to share today!
The first one is a big one—Red Earth Designs is going through rebranding. I’ve posted previously about the logo change; in addition, I’ve been slowly working on updating the format of all my patterns. The new layout came about while I was working on Le Soir, and over the last month my older patterns have been transitioning one by one. Since great changes are easier than small ones (or so Sir Francis Bacon tells us), this ended up being the perfect opportunity to reshoot some designs that were less than satisfactory, from a visual point of view. Behold!
Above are my Wicket Gate Cowl and Ealhswith Hat & Mittens; these are two of my most popular designs, and for a while now they’ve needed clearer, more dynamic photos—my model for both of them was lovely, but my camera work was less so! Thankfully there are handy piles of wood all over my yard… All of these patterns have been updated with the new layout and photography (check the links above for more pictures). The rest of my portfolio will follow in the coming months; most will not be getting new pictures, but the format will be cleaner and match better with the rest of my patterns.
There’s also a new pattern in the works! This one won’t be getting a ton of fanfare due to everything going on with Mélodies, but it’s very, very special to me nonetheless, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you. I can’t say too much now, except that it’s for those who are hobbits at heart and love lace!
Speaking of Mélodies, Pattern #3 is currently in the works. This photo is from almost a month ago and it’s much bigger now (ahem, a lot bigger); the release date is penciled in for early December. There’ll be some details about Pattern #2, Nuit d’etoiles, at the bottom of this post, so keep on scrolling.
It’s been a while since I posted any personal projects; currently I’m chipping away at a Navelli sweater. I started it at the end of August in hopes of finishing it for an outdoor event that I’ll be photographing this weekend, but I’m so far behind that at this point I think it’ll just be a leisure project. The plan is to do several hacks/modifications, such as changing the neckline to a V instead of a boat neck. I’m also making it with far less positive ease for a trimmer fit. We’ll see how it goes!
Finally, a Nuit d’etoiles teaser! This piece was a whopper to knit and almost ran behind schedule, but now that it’s done I couldn’t be more satsified; I’m excited to release it two weeks from today. Don’t forget that the Mélodies full collection will be available for a steep discount until then, so be sure to catch it if you’re interested.
My goodness, things do pile up! As I look over what I’ve just written, I’m thinking October will be just as full as September. Guess I’d better brace myself. Loads of fun coming up this month!
