I think I’ve been bit by the knitalong bug this year! I’ve participated in one and hosted one of my own; I’m prepping for an MKAL next month (more on that soon) and here I am in the middle of another one, this time as one of several designers.
The Around-the-World Stitchalong is a month-long makealong with designers and participants from all over the world—last time I checked, we’d covered almost every continent. Each designer has put 5 of their patterns on sale for a limited time; there are also threads on Ravelry for chat and for sharing cultural traditions, customs, and recipes. Cast-on day was this past Monday and the SAL will run until August 25. For the rules and discussion threads, check out the official Ravelry group here.
The pattern sale runs until Friday, July 29; select patterns are 25% off with the code SAL2022. My Ravelry bundle of sale patterns is here; to see all the sale patterns from every participating designer, check out this Ravelry link. Sadly the SAL doesn’t have an off-Rav setup at this time, but I’ve put up a non-official sale code for my Payhip store on all the same patterns that are in my Ravelry sale, so the off-Rav folks will at least be able to access the discount. Use the code SUMMER on any of the patterns below to save 25% until Friday.
And don’t forget, Hoa Sen Tee will also be eligible for the SAL once it’s out! (While only certain patterns are on sale, all paid patterns by any participating designer are eligible for the SAL.) You can grab it on Ravelry or Payhip for 20% off with code LOTUS until August 3, release day.
I think one reason I love makealongs is the opportunity to challenge myself: to pick projects I wouldn’t normally pick, try techniques I haven’t done before, finally start up a pattern that’s been in my queue for a while, stay accountable to actually finishing the thing, discover a new-to-me designer…for the SAL, I’ve decided to start with a pattern by a designer I haven’t crocheted from before, with several techniques and a construction method I’ve never tried. This is going to be a Federkiel mitt by Tanja Osswald. Several of the techniques are new to me, including crochet short rows, and some of the terminology is non-standard. I’m enjoying the pattern immensely, though! I’ve never made one of Tanja’s patterns before, but I think I’m poised to be a repeat customer; she includes lots of photo tutorials and clear instructions of each important technique, which I’d be totally lost without. Now I have to figure out what keeps going sideways with my stitch count (yep, makealongs are also a lesson in humility)…
Hope to see you in the Stitch-Along!
