Dancing Knits No. 4 is out today—please welcome Carolina Promenade!
The Carolina Promenade, aka The Gay Gordons, is a great first English country dance. It’s a circle dance with two circles—guys on the inside and gals on the outside—moving in opposite directions, so that after after each sequence of steps, everyone gets a new partner. It’s fast but not too fast with only a teensy bit of fancy footwork, and the repetition makes it easy to learn.
Occasionally one of my own patterns will surprise me with how much I love it, and Carolina Promenade is one of those. I wanted something a little simpler than usual, but still clever and fun to knit. The double button bands are configured to allow lots of different buttoning options, which means you can wear this piece as a poncho, a shrug/bolero, a cape, and scads of other things. It also works well unbuttoned and worn as a stole. It’s the easiest pattern in the collection by far—mostly stockinette with one leaf lace/twisted stitch panel at a friendly gauge of 18 stitches = 4″—and might just be the most versatile. The drape is also off the charts but the fabric has a nice weight to it.
Dancing Knits will have 5 patterns total, with 4 of the patterns revealed and out for single purchase today. Each week in September, another pattern will be revealed/added to the ebook and the ebook price will increase. So bear that in mind if you’d like to get the full ebook, since it’s significantly discounted at this time. The last pattern in the ebook comes out next week, so this is the last call for the ebook before the price increases to the final price!
Both the ebooks and the single patterns will be available on Ravelry and on Payhip. If you’re getting single patterns, use the code Knit&Dance for 15% off until midnight on September 30. (If you’re on my email newsletter, be sure to check your inbox for your special code).
I can’t believe we’re already onto Pattern 4. Let me know which is your favorite so far—I’m always excited to hear what you think!
