Pattern Release: Ombra Shawl

You know how we all have “someday” projects—things we want to make in the future but live rent-free in our heads right now? Today I get to bring you one of my “someday” projects: the Ombra Shawl!

This top-down crescent shawl features an airy leaf lace pattern and chevron border; and both stitch patterns are adjustable! Work as many repeats as desired of either stitch to customize the size of your finished shawl. Ombra is designed to look good with jeans, sundresses, evening wear, and pretty much anything you might find yourself wearing over the warmer months. I used Malabrigo Mechita for mine, and the softness and drape are off the charts.

And because I’m a nerd and an opera singer, this shawl is inspired by Handel’s beloved aria Ombra Mai Fu. Classy, elegant, catchy, and addictive—all the attributes of the song I wanted to capture. The only difference is that Ombra Mai Fu is harder to sing than it sounds, but Ombra Shawl is easier to knit than it looks. Because I’m not that committed to the inspiration.

This design has been sitting on my computer for literal years. It was rejected by a magazine ages ago, but it’s one of my favorite designs and I’ve been hoping it would have its time to shine ever since. Then Malabrigo picked it up for their Quickies program, and today’s the day!

As per usual, take 15% off Ombra with code BREEZES until midnight EST June 3 on Ravelry and Payhip. I can’t wait to see all your shawls pop up—seeing your projects is such fun. Happy knitting!
