Should I, Should I Not?

I’m ridiculously excited today, because yesterday SweetGeorgia Yarns announced their 2021 Spring Make-Along. It looks like it’s going to be a great event full of crafting, inspiration, chatter, and other fun; they also have a sale on lace yarns right now; but that is not something I need to be participating in…

But I’m definitely going to do the Make-Along; y’all will most likely remember how much fun I had last year.

Yes, crazy. A tunic-length sweater. In fingering weight. On US 3’s. In 5 weeks. But it was a blast. Not without fiascoes, but a blast nonetheless. (The full story can be found here.)

This year I’m slightly less crazy (I also have more deadlines). I actually have some leftover Tough Love Sock lying around that I could use to make something small, like a cowl or a few pairs of fingerless mitts. However, the lure of the sweater may just be too great to resist.

Fortunately, neither of the sweaters I have in mind are fingering weight. Both of these are from my New Year’s Resolution challenge, so I actually have a legitimate reason to point to if I decide to try and make one of them in 4 weeks. (Don’t ask why I put so many sweaters in the challenge to begin with, though; nor should you ask why I actually asked SweetGeorgia if they were planning a Make-Along before purchasing yarn for one of them.)

My first option is Barocco by Stella Egidi. My younger siblings got me about the coolest present a knitter could ask for this past Christmas—5 skeins of Mohair Silk DK. These colors are Black Plum and Lichen; and aren’t they scrummy! I’m itching to knit with these skeins, but my only reservation is that the yarn is a bit warm for spring, and with the longer silhouette of Barocco I wouldn’t be able to wear the sweater immediately. It would be a relatively quick knit, though, in DK weight.

The other option is Hermosa Pullover by Stephannie Tallent. This is Superwash Sport (which I think is discontinued…don’t quote me though) in Deep Cove; and yes, this is the yarn I bought. In my defense, it was on sale. This would be a great spring project; the shorter sweater length would work with jeans or a skirt, and I could probably wear it for several weeks before it got too hot. The sport weight would be a slower knit, though.

And just to make this even more confusing, there’s also this skein of SeaSilk Lace from last year’s Make-Along. This amazing gold color (Sea Grass—limited edition colorway from last spring) is the closest dye job to actual gold I’ve ever seen; it’d be spectacular in an Aeolian Shawl. I spend a lot of time knitting with lightweight yarns, though, and sometimes I think it’d be nice to take a break and do something a little heftier. Decisions, decisions.

Of course I could just make some accessories with those Tough Love Sock leftovers. Don’t count on it though.

What do you think? And what’s the tightest crafting deadline you ever took on? (This wouldn’t be mine…but I’ll save that story for another time.)

Thanks for the encouragement! 😊 I do love that sweater…

I just realized I could also do a Clair de Lune in that SeaSilk Lace, though, so I’m even more indecisive than before!
