Facets Joy

If you go to my Ruth Nguyen designer page on Ravelry, you’ll see that the Facets Cowl is my most popular pattern. The design was published just over 3 months ago, and truth be told that was an accident (a happy one; that’s another story!). But that means that today I get to show off something very special—customer projects made from the pattern!

This cowl was made by Sherece—the first Facets project I’d ever seen by someone I didn’t know. It’s a lovely spin on the published color combo; the pastel purples and greens remind me of fluorite, one of my favorite gemstones.

Janine used a WeCrochet project kit to make her Facets in the suggested colors. Her Ravelry project page shows that she blew through this cowl in less than three days. Way to go, Janine!

Patty used the Mermaid kit for her cowl. She worked the variegated yarn as the main color, rather than the solid, resulting in a dazzling watercolor effect.

Holly’s Facets has a fabulous red velvet cake look, with pops of red, pink, and peach against soft white. If it weren’t so pretty it’d be quite tasty!

Susan went all out with a bold pairing of teal and coral. This cowl must be a welcome pop of color during the winter months!

I had the fun of giving some input on this color combo! Jessica posted pictures of four different colors and asked for suggestions on how to combine them; several crocheters cast their votes and she ended up with this wonderful melty-blendy combination of two variegated colors, one muted and one bright. Together they make soft stripes of so many different colors that harmonize in a stained-glass effect.

Finally, these two cowls were crocheted by Heather from WeCrochet; much to my (happy) surprise, I found out during the editorial process that Heather had sneaked a look at the pattern and begun making these cowls before the design was published! (That’s a good way to make a designer happy…) As you can see, she used two bright variegated colorways for each cowl for a vibrant, tropical feel.

That’s all for now! It’s been a joy to see so many crocheters making and enjoying the Facets Cowl pattern. The curated kits are current WeCrochet top sellers and the entire Chroma line is on sale for the month of February, so more snazzy works-in-progress may be popping up any day now. Will there be a Facets Joy Part 2? Who knows…

  1. Thanks for writing this fun & simple design, Ruth! It is a fun project, and I love how no two cowls turn out exactly the same, which is a good way to keep me making a project over and over. I super love Jessica’s Fossil & Party hat version.
