I’m back from a brief hiatus with something exciting to show you!
After Glimpses of Autumn came out last fall (Ravelry and Payhip links for interested parties), several people asked for a winter version with snowflakes. Originally, Glimpses of Autumn was supposed to be a one-off, but designing it was so much fun that I couldn’t resist the idea of revisiting it. Instead of a gradient sock blank, I decided to tweak the design to accomodate mini-skeins; the team at SweetGeorgia gave me lots of color pairing advice since I couldn’t see the yarns in person.
I admit, this is something of a cheater design; I’m reusing all the math from Glimpses of Autumn, and simply worked up a new chart with a stylized snowflake motif. That, and some color placement tips for the minis, are the only changes. Because I’m not gonna lie—mathing out Glimpses of Autumn was a little more excitement than I’d bargained for, and I wasn’t feeling gumptious enough to charge into 2022 with a whole new set of calculations. If Glimpses of Winter does well enough, maybe I’ll work up a spring or summer version that’s a bit smaller, with different math, but that’s all a little too far ahead for me.
Then again, things are moving much faster with this design than I expected; I just joined the fifth and final mini-skein today. It’s tapestry crochet on the agenda for me tonight!
This will be a short post, even though it’s the first one of the year, because I need to get cracking away on this sample. It’s possible we may get a spot of snow here this weekend (our only snowfall of the year!), and I’m hoping to have this shawl done and waiting for pictures, just in case…
