Crocheters, I’ve got a new one for you today!
After releasing Glimpses of Autumn last year, I knew I wanted to revisit the same bias triangle shape, but with mini-skeins instead of a gradient. Minis give the design more flexibility, since crocheters can make personalized choices regarding how many colors to use, where to change colors, etc. Technically all of this is possible to do within the original Glimpses of Autumn pattern, but when a repeat customer asked for a winter version with snowflakes, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to whip up another sample with minis. The pattern contains detailed yardage and color change notes to help you assemble your own mini-skein palettes, or even combine lots of partial skeins and leftovers. Oh, and another benefit of using lots of different contrast colors? Multi-colored tassels are the coolest thing ever. If you need some color inspiration, check out the hashtag #glimpsesofwintershawl on Instagram; a couple of amazing preview crocheters have been hard at work putting together their own combos.
I used a Party of Five mini-skein set from SweetGeorgia Yarns and 1 skein of their Tough Love Sock (another adjustment to this design from the original Glimpses pattern—you’ll only need 1 skein of your solid main color). Here I pause for a moment to sing the praises of Tough Love Sock: this stuff is awesomesauce. It’s well, tough, elastic, and doesn’t pill; but it’s also soft and comfortable to wear, and after rigorous wet blocking it drapes like crazy. If I could only design with one yarn for the rest of my career, this would be it.
As you’ll notice from looking through the pattern photos, I did three different photo shoots with this shawl, all in different settings with different lighting conditions. Some designs take 15 minutes to shoot, and I can go about my day (rare but true). Others leave me second-guessing to no end. And then sometimes you get your first snowfall in four or five years and it’s too good an opportunity to pass up:
Now, details:
Per the usual, you can get this pattern via Ravelry and Payhip, and there’s an introductory discount of 10%. The discount applies both to this pattern and to Glimpses of Autumn (because I’m really excited, y’all…) and expires midnight EST on Saturday, February 12. Use the coupon code SNOWFALL at checkout on either design.
I’m excited to hear what you think of this pattern! I have ideas for Spring and Summer as well, but whether those see the light of day depends on how Glimpses of Winter fares. Maybe I’d better stop typing now, because I’m starting to sound like one of those Victorian novelists setting up for a sequel…
Anyway, happy crocheting!
